Things To Do Around

In The Know

6km from Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock is a distinctive geological formation in central Victoria, Australia. A former volcano, it lies 718m above sea level on the plain between the two small townships of Newham and Hesket, approximately 70 km north-west of Melbourne and a few kilometres north of Mount Macedon.

Winery’s & Brewers

Macedon Ranges has fantastic winery’s in the area, Gisborne Peak, Mount Towrong Vineyard and Mount Macedon Winery just to name a few.
The Holegate is a local brewer that makes local craft beer. Come try the Mt. Macedon Pale Ale.

Camels Hump

Like nearby Hanging Rock, the rocky outcrop that is the Camel’s Hump is a mamelon, a volcanic feature formed six million years ago when thick lava squeezed up through a small vent in the earth’s crust. It is the highest peak in the Macedon Ranges and offers superb views of the surrounding countryside.

Honour Avenue & The Macedon Autumn Festival

Macedon is a magical village to visit during autumn, with its mass of vibrant leaves on show. It’s also the gateway to hiking trails in Macedon Regional Park and vineyard cellar doors.

One of the most popular locations to visit in autumn is Honour Avenue. This famous avenue boasts 154 Pin Oaks forming a fairy-like arch of leaves. From late March to late April, the leaves begin a slow transition from yellow to vibrant red to burnt sienna.

These magnificent oaks were planted along the avenue in 1918 to commemorate those from Macedon and Mount Macedon who served in World War I. During your visit please remain respectful that this is a place of historical significance, as well as a home to local residents.

Rock Concerts

The 2020 Macedon Ranges Music Festival shapes up to be the biggest yet with a lineup of world class Australian artists coming to the Gisborne Steam Park on Saturday March 14th. Melbourne’s queen of soul Kylie Auldist will headline the family friendly festival with her all star band. Best known for her global megahit ‘This Girl’, Kylie has long been a favourite Australian act around the world. Joining Kylie on the lineup will be blues icon Geoff Achison and the Souldiggers, one-man-band powerhouse Shaun Kirk, singer-songwriter Michael Dunstan and many more.

While music-lovers will have their hands full, fans of food and drink will be excited by what’s on offer at this year’s festival. A new expanded bar layout will showcase Macedon’s own Mountain Distilling gin cocktails, Hanging Rock Winery, Harcourt Cider and Atomic Beer Project’s beer range. These will be complemented by an assortment of award winning food trucks and stalls. There is also plenty for the young ones (and young at heart) with virtual reality, jumping castle and face painting adding to the festivities.

Topping it all off is the fact that 100% of ticket sales are donated directly to the Woodend-based charity Cambodian Kids Foundation to support their community development work in rural Cambodia.

Stay tuned to the MRMF Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date with the full lineup, local sideshows and more information or visit our website.

The festival would like to thank its major sponsors Gisborne & District Community Bendigo Bank Branch and Macedon Ranges Shire Council for their support in making this event possible.
